Your first massage at Vestta starts with a conversation about how you feel and what you would like from the appointment. Archer Jensan explains the proposed bodywork and asks about your comfort, health history and preferences. You can discuss clothing, draping, pressure and any areas you want to avoid before the session begins. Your feedback remains welcome throughout, and you can ask for an adjustment or stop. Vestta offers personal bodywork in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant neighbourhood. These sessions are not presented as registered massage therapy. If you need RMT care or plan to claim benefits, confirm those requirements before choosing an appointment.
What should you discuss before your first massage?
A first massage conversation should cover your goals, relevant health information and anything you want the practitioner to avoid. You might want a quieter appointment, attention to a particular area or a clear explanation before each change of approach.
Tell Archer about injuries, recent procedures, sensitive areas and medicines that may matter to hands-on work. Share advice from your healthcare professional. You do not need to arrive with a diagnosis or know which technique to request.
The NCCIH guide to massage advises seeking healthcare guidance when you are unsure whether massage is appropriate. A bodywork appointment should not delay assessment of an unexplained medical problem.
What do you wear during the appointment?
Clothing and draping depend on the bodywork being discussed and your comfort with it. Ask Archer what the proposed approach involves before you get ready.
You can explain that you prefer to remain clothed or that certain areas should remain covered. Ask whether the planned session can accommodate those preferences. The conversation should happen before any work begins, with time to understand the arrangement.
There is no need to guess from a massage photograph or someone else’s experience. Different forms of bodywork can involve different setups. Tell Archer if you need instructions repeated, more privacy or help understanding how you will be positioned.
How do you choose the pressure?
Our deep tissue and relaxation massage comparison can help you describe the approach you want to discuss.
Massage pressure should be discussed and adjusted with your feedback. Saying that a touch feels too strong, too light or uncomfortable gives Archer useful information during the session.
You do not need to tolerate pressure because of the name on the booking. You can speak up during a deep-tissue appointment, ask to work elsewhere, change the approach or stop.
Simple descriptions are enough: “less pressure here,” “please avoid that area” or “I’d like to pause.” Preferences can also change during an appointment. Agreeing to the initial plan does not prevent you from changing your mind.
What should you expect from bodywork?
Bodywork at Vestta is a personal session with Archer, shaped around the approach you have discussed. It should not be understood as a promise to diagnose a condition, repair an injury or produce a particular result.
Massage research varies by condition and technique. NCCIH describes possible short-term benefits for some concerns, alongside limits in the evidence. Those findings do not predict what one person will experience at one appointment.
Be specific about what you hope for, and ask whether that goal fits the proposed session. If you are following a rehabilitation plan or seeking care for persistent symptoms, discuss that with the healthcare professional responsible for your treatment.
What should you confirm before booking?
A massage booking should match the service, practitioner and appointment length you actually want. Check the description of the selected option, including whether it is a standalone session or an add-on.
Before booking, confirm:
- The bodywork approach and available appointment length.
- Any access or positioning needs you want to discuss.
- Whether your healthcare professional has advised any restrictions.
- The practitioner’s status if your care plan or insurer requires an RMT.
Vestta does not represent these appointments as registered massage therapy. A familiar service name or the word “therapeutic” is not a guarantee of insurance eligibility. Check your plan’s requirements before relying on reimbursement.
